EPA-GORE agreement will mean millionaire investment in maritime terminals in Punta Arenas

On the afternoon of this Monday, June 10, the 15th ordinary session of the Magallanes Regional Council was held, which lasted almost 2 hours. Among the motions that the members of the collegiate body had to vote on was the one related to the EPA-GORE programming agreement, called “Improvement of the port system to enhance the development of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, 2023-2028”, which was approved.

At the end of the session, the governor of Magallanes and president of CORE, Jorge Flies Añón, expressed that "the Council has been supporting the budget process. This is the first time that we have the Regional Governments that through a programming agreement we can contribute to the development of public companies in the State and today it has been strongly supported by part of the collegiate body of the area."

Of a total of more than 38 billion pesos established by the agreement, the EPA will contribute the equivalent of 63%, while the GORE will contribute the equivalent of 37%.

The initiative aims to enhance maritime connectivity, tourism in the region, have better logistics at the docks in terms of cargo and for the execution of Green Hydrogen projects.

Mardones terminal slab capacity improvement

The loading capacity of the Mardones Dock will be strengthened for a better residence of Green Hydrogen projects and other industries.

Construction of new passenger terminal at Prat pier, Punta Arenas

The construction of a new building is considered, with both functional and architectural improvements with respect to the current facilities, defining as its main objective the attention of passengers from cruise ships, but also, given the seasonality of this activity, considering operating spaces as a center open to the community, with independent accesses for the use of third parties, which improve the sustainability of the initiative.

Improvement of docking capacity at Prat pier, Punta Arenas – stage III

The project will improve and expand the conditions of the northern docking site, designing the works that allow the service of tourism vessels up to 250 meters in length on said front.

Acquisition of J.S. terminal port cranes Mardones

This initiative is complementary to the reinforcement of the dock slab that will increase the structural capacity to enable the operation of equipment of this size and thus considerably improve load transfer performance.
